African swine fever

I kindly ask all pig keepers to pay particular attention to the information on “Good Pig Keeping Practice” and to the increased observance of the following rules in order to avoid the infection of pig herds with the African swine fever virus:

  1. Reporting pig keeping to the district chief veterinarian (7900 Szigetvár, Rákóczi u. 25, BAVKH Szigetvár District Office, Food Chain Safety and Animal Health Department). The farms of the settlements located in the protection zone must be visited by the official veterinarian within 7 days for the clinical examination of the pigs and for checking their identification markings.

  2. Pigs may only be slaughtered for private consumption after a prior veterinary examination with favourable results. Taking cut pork off your own premises without heat treatment is PROHIBITED. In the case of home slaughter, animal by-products (intestines, hooves, scalding products, etc.) may not leave the farm; burying them is recommended.

  3. In the surveillance zone, the transport and driving on foot of pigs is PROHIBITED.

  4. The removal of pigs from the farm is PROHIBITED for at least 40 days after the completion of cleaning and disinfection of the infected farm; after this period has passed, permission from the district office must be requested for removal.

  5. GRAIN-BASED FEED must be kept closed off from wild boar and domestic pigs for at least 30 days from its arrival at the farm, and may only be fed after that. The purchase log must be kept up to date.

  6. BEDDING MATERIAL, STRAW, FIREWOOD, AND FRESH MOWN MATERIAL FROM OUTSIDE AREAS must be kept closed off from wild boar and domestic pigs for at least 90 days from their arrival at the farm, and may only be used after that. The purchase log must be kept up to date.

  7. Trucks, other vehicles, and tools used for transporting pigs or other animals or materials (e.g. feed, manure, slurry, etc.) in the surveillance zone, and which may therefore be contaminated, may not leave the zone without the cleaning and disinfection prescribed by the district chief veterinarian.

  8. Without the permission of the official veterinarian, animals of other species may not enter or leave the farms located there either.

  9. The official veterinarian must be notified immediately of every sick or dead pig observed on the farms.

  10. Personal traffic on the farms must be restricted to the minimum possible. Anyone entering or leaving the pig farm is obliged to comply with the official measures introduced to prevent the spread of the African swine fever virus. The use of separate clothing and boots is recommended on the farm premises and in outside areas.

  11. Before entering the farm area, hands and boots must be disinfected.

  12. Visiting other farms is prohibited, and participating in pig slaughter elsewhere is PROHIBITED. Forestry and hunting activities, as well as walking in forests, are not recommended.

Thank you!
